"Free Matt Hale" - Richard Edmonds appeals in letter to Donald Trump

Dear Sir,
I am writing to you in the hopes that you will take the time to look into the unusual sentence being served by prisoner, Matt Hale. He was sentenced to 40 years for a crime in which he remains the only victim. Matt Hale will soon be asking you for a "Commutation of Sentence". I am asking that you grant his request.

Matt Hale can be described as a political prisoner who as a result of his non-violent opinions has spent the last 13 years incarcerated within the Federal prison system in solitary confinement at the maximum Federal prison in Florence, Colorado.
Matt Hale is an educated lawyer and a classical violinist who has committed no actual crime but has been jailed solely due to false claims made by an admittedly paid US government entrapment officer. The whole principle of entrapment, whereby government officials deliberately break the Law in an attempt to incite others to break the Law, is itself morally dubious. The facts of the case can all be validated upon researching his trial transcript. There was never a crime or a victim and never any action taken to commit a crime.
That a man can be jailed for forty years solely on the say-so of a government agent is a Kafka-esque nightmare. What sort of system are you operating in the United States of America ? The case of Matt Hale resembles something from medieval Turkey: a man locked in the dungeons for years on end and he knows not why. As a Briton, I find it almost incomprehensible that an American citizen can be subjected to such treatment. Will Matt Hale still be in jail come Christmas 2018 and then Christmas 2019...and so for another twenty five years ? It is hardly comprehensible.

If you will read his trial transcript at freematthale.net I am sure you too will agree that Matt is a victim of a sinister system that will do everything possible to silence dissent.  Matt’s trial began April 7, 2004, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division, Case Number 03 CR 11.
