NORTH EAST NATIONAL FRONT ACHIEVE VICTORY IN MILLFIELD MOSQUE CAMPAIGN
The Nationalist Sentinel has just been reliably informed that common sense has prevailed and Sunderland Council have backed from their earlier decision to allow the conversion of a former transport depot in St Marks Road, Millfield, Sunderland into a mosque despite organised opposition by the National Front and local residents. The council have said that there is no need for another mosque in Millfield and the nearby mosque in Chester Road is adequate for their needs.
Before the NF began to demonstrate against them, any opposition to these undemocratic plans to allow a peaceful, overwhelmingly White Christian suburb to be disrupted by becoming a gathering point for Muslim outsiders were ignored and a 1400 signature petition along with many letters and phone calls from local folk were ignored and attempts to even engage the councillors in debate fell on deaf ears. Even local Millfield councillors, elected by the people of Millfield, came out in support of the plans to build the mosque.
On 2nd August 2012, locals active in the campaign against the mosque contacted the NF with the news that the local council had passed the planning application for the mosque that very day. We were told by the residents how they feared problems with parking, noise from the mosque and with the recent disclosures about Muslim extremists operating using the cover of a mosque for their activities they were worried what sort of people could be attracted their quiet area. Plans were drawn up by NENF organiser Simon Biggs to take the protest against the mosque to the streets of Sunderland!
Ten days later, on the 12th August 2012, the National Front, led by Simon Biggs the North East National Front organiser, arrived in Millfield, joined by supportive locals. Our flags, banners and placards were unveiled and we held a lively 90-minute protest against the proposed mosque directly outside the site. Hundreds of leaflets were distributed to passers-by and door-to-door in the area. On that day we drew a line in the sand and declared that the National Front would stand by the people of Millfield and we would never give up the struggle against the council's plans and if the mosque was actually opened, the demonstrations would continue unabated.
Another four demonstrations were held at the site of the planned mosque over the following few months. Some of these demos were small and quiet; others were large and much louder. NENF organiser Simon Biggs was arrested at a demo in October and banned from the area by the courts and other leading NF members were arrested at some of the later demos, as pressure from the council and the media on the police to put a stop to the protests increased.
Undeterred, we carried on with the campaign and now, with the mosque plans scuppered and the councillors who backed it silenced, the North East National Front can proudly claim victory as can every other patriot who got out on the streets to defend the Millfield community. This proves that street demonstrations DO work. If it wasn't for the National Front taking to the streets of Millfield and letting the council know what was in store for them if their plans went ahead, the people of Millfield would now have a mosque in the middle of their area and would be woken up by the wailing from the minarets every morning.
