Tense stand-off between 'White Pride' members and counter-demonstrators in city centre
“White Pride” campaigners were met by a wall of counter-demonstrators during a tense city centre stand-off.
A large police presence kept the peace in Swansea as violence threatened to break out between right-wing extremists and anti-racism campaigners yesterday.
Around were stationed across the road in Castle Square.
Officers cordoned off the two sides, but trouble almost broke out when a group of extremists broke through the police barrier and charged towards the socialists.
They were stopped by officers, including some on horseback, and dragged into a police riot van. South Wales Police later confirmed two arrests had been made for public order offences.
Thirty so-called “White Pride” members gathered outside the ruins of Swansea Castle to make their feelings known. But they were outnumbered by around 100 counter-protesters."
